This is because it requires the internet which also has a brief history.  A short look into the history of web design shows how it has evolved to be what we know it today.

Tim Berners-Lee made a proposal to create a global hypertext. This would later be known as World Wide Web. During this time, the screens were black with a few pixels. Designing was by symbols and tabulation. Pages were viewed using simple line-mode browsers.

This was when browsers that could display images emerged. This was the first step in The concept that existed then can be compared to today?s HTML.  The method used was putting tables within tables and mixing static cells with fluid cells. Designers faced a problem to create and maintain complex structures. This year also saw the rise of slicing designs. This was the method used to make fancy layouts and hand it to developers who would create smaller pieces. This was the year Javascript was introduced.

The year 1996 saw the development of flash (FutureSplash). It was easy and simple compared to today. Enabled use of basic design layouts and drawing tools. Many developers avoided its use for it require the plug in. This was the year web design saw the rise of cascading style sheets( CSS) this brought the basic concept of separating content from presentation. The first versions were inflexible and have adoption problems. It took some time for developers to learn how to fully integrate CSS in browsers.

The turn of the century shows more people adopt design. This was the period browsing on mobile phones was introduced. This posed a challenge to web designers because of different phone layouts and content parity problems. Issues of speed were common; the internet was slow. Improvements were made by the introduction of column grids. Then there was the standardization of common tools like forms and navigation buttons. They were packed in in the easy and usable way.

Responsive web design was introduced. It enabled the combined use of HTML and CSS. It allows web pages to work in multiple layouts even on the phones. Developers made a break through. A single website created can be accessed by users regardless of devices and browsers used.

This was the time web designers were improving the responsive web design.  The process of creating layouts was streamlined. The content was promised to fancy shadow effects. The emergence of unique layouts, fine photography was done to make web design to what it is now. Glossy buttons were replaced by icons.
